The Department of History, Political Science, Geography, and African American Studies invites applications for a full-time tenure-earning 9-month faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the field of political science to start August 2021. Candidates should submit their curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation, a brief writing sample and a letter of interest detailing current and future research plans.The position reports to the Department Chairperson.


Provides quality instruction in three to four courses per semester in political science including American Government, Black Politics and Research Methods at the undergraduate and graduate levels; Prepares lectures, course activities and materials; grade exams and papers; Conducts research and publish in areas of specialization; Engages in craftsmanship related to the discipline; Attends faculty meetings, participate in departmental committees and activities and prepare academic and administrative reports, as needed; Mentors students about curriculum, preparation for graduation, employment, graduate school and other matter; Participates on University committees; Engages in relevant community service; and demonstrates commitment to larger community through involvement in service.

Minimum Qualifications

Must possess an earned Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Political Science.

Recommended Competencies

Strong research agenda with a clear plan for peer-reviewed publications; Ability and interest to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels; and primary teaching and research focus in American Government, Black Politics and Research Methods (qualitative analysis).

Anticipated Salary Range

The maximum hiring rate for this position is $63,000.00.
