The Department of Political Science and Public Affairs at Western Carolina University is searching for a visiting assistant professor in International Relations and/or Comparative Politics to join our growing and accomplished faculty.
This is a fixed-term nine-month position with the possibility of renewal and the potential for summer teaching. The anticipated begin date is August 2026. The successful candidate will contribute to the Political Science and International Studies programs by teaching six courses per academic year, including sections of our “Exploring Global Politics” course, a core introductory class in our Political Science major. Upper-level courses within the candidate’s specialization will also be part of the teaching load.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position
Minimum Qualifications
Advanced ABD candidates with a minimum of 18 credit hours in Political Science, International Relations, International Studies, or related academic field.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD in Political Science, International Relations, International Studies, or a related discipline from an accredited institution (or advanced ABD status), research and teaching expertise in the politics of the Middle East, Latin America, or Asia, and a demonstrated focus on these regions.
