Schreiner University, a fiercely independent liberal arts institution nestled in the scenic Texas Hill Country, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of History, beginning August 2026.

We seek a dynamic scholar who can balance excellence in undergraduate teaching with an active research agenda, and who will contribute meaningfully to the goals of the Department of History and Regional Studies.

Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in History is required by the start date. Candidates who are ABD will be considered if they will complete the degree by August 2026.
  • Specialization in International Relations or Diplomatic History of the United States is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will also have regional specialization in either Asia, the Middle East, or Africa.
  • Experience or interest in developing curricula and programming related to deliberative processes such as Moot Court and/or Model United Nations is highly desirable.
  • The ability to lead a debate team is a plus.
  • Candidates should be prepared to teach introductory surveys in U.S. History and may be needed to periodically pick up survey sections of World Civilizations.

Teaching & Service Expectations:

  • The standard teaching load is 4 courses per semester (4/4).
  • Faculty are expected to participate in university service and departmental activities.
  • The ideal candidate will be skilled in teaching small, face-to-face classes and engaging first-year and first-generation college students.
  • A commitment to mentoring undergraduate research and encouraging students to major in History is essential.

Departmental Engagement:

  • The successful candidate will actively support the Department of History and Regional Studies through participation in recruitment and promotional events.
  • Responsibilities include meeting with prospective students and families, promoting program offerings to current students and colleagues, and representing the department externally to other institutions and schools.

Program Development:

  • The new faculty member will collaborate with the department chair to advance the academic and strategic goals of the department.
  • This includes contributing ideas to diversify course and degree offerings in alignment with Schreiner’s institutional mission, its designation as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), and its regional context.
