The College of Wooster located in Wooster, Ohio is seeking an Assistant Professor of Africana Studies to teach the equivalent of five and a half courses a year, including introductory and advanced courses in Africana Studies. Will contribute to the First-Year Seminar program and receive credit for supervising independent thesis projects as part of the College’s Independent Study program. Will have the opportunity to collaborate with affiliated faculty teaching in other disciplines on campus.

Given the interdisciplinary nature of Africana Studies, we welcome applications that reflect a range of expertise within the field. There are currently affiliated faculty across the College contributing to our major and minor. While we will consider applicants with any relevant training in the field of Africana Studies, we are especially interested in candidates who can complement our existing areas of expertise and contribute to other major programs on campus such as Political Science, Sociology, Communication Studies, Archaeology, Urban Studies, Music, Religious Studies, and Theatre.

We welcome scholars with interests in transnationalism, decolonization, indigeneity, and/or intersectionality.

Qualifications

The minimum requirements for the position are a Ph.D. or appropriate terminal degree (master’s) in Africana Studies, Black Studies, or Anthropology with a focus on Africa, or a related field and experience teaching courses about the African Diaspora. A demonstrated interest in community engagement, social justice, and/or innovative pedagogical approaches is preferred.
